The color choice and art visuals of the sculpture give it a
movement adding a real-life touch that attracts the audience.
The part that stands out the most is the figure of the man
coming out the door with an enigmatic gait. The large door is magnified, bringing
the man to the focus point. On the other hand, the minimized lock on the
entrance catches our eyes, expressing physical and psychological impenetrable
walls. I believe the artist does this to represent an enthusiastic idea since
the figure seems to have to be broken free. Also, the sculptor might want the
audience to see some things more than others to give the piece balance, depth
and more complete.
The hopeful tone helps the reader understand the victory and
freedom imbedded in the visual, since the man is able to penetrate the
impenetrable. The texture and size of the doors reflect intimidation. In
contrast, the lofty positioning of the figure is the part of the sculpture that
mostly evokes its tone.
Enigmatic and passionate are the words that best describe
“Quo Vadis” by Gregorio Berchenko. It is like a secret waiting to be revealed.
I chose this comparison because anything in hiding like a secret is mysterious
and intriguing, which is represented by the half closed doors. Furthermore, the
man represents passion and desire to know more about it as if the sculpture
himself freed the man from the doors and captured his revelation.
This is a well developed and multifarious piece of art. It
encourages the reader to make interpretations about the sculpture. In addition,
“Quo Vadis” incorporates elements of literature such as the impenetrable walls
well-known as a central focus in gothic genre. As a whole, Berchenkos sculpture
is amusing to the audience.
