In “Peeling Bodies”, Chris Dyer allows the sun to be aloft,
shinning upon coating layers of the human existence, reaching the end where we
are all equally nurtured from earth’s roots.
Dyer creates what appears to be an enlarged surface
meanwhile he has parted and layered in 5 different undercoats of color
representatives of the tragic car accident that ironically made this piece
possible. The artist placed such emphasis on the peeling of his body due to his
friend’s confession that while the accident, he was there mostly spiritually
while his body felt as if it was opening and exploring. In the background, the
superfluous sun in monochromatic shades of yellow and orange with visionary
eyes melting away imply the existence of
God in this piece. In part, nature takes
an extrinsic role as it nurtures us, only providing a foreground to arise from
and leaving the rest up to the human existence and God himself, which in the
end might be why the artist magnified the sun.
The tone of this piece is vibrant, lighthearted and
energetic and energetic, as only by looking at it, a sense of calmness is felt
with pure playfulness. The tone is beguiled by the artist himself, a man who
seems to take life as it comes, while making the best of his day with an
amiable personality and a peaceful soul.
